Belt grinding machine
Self-made belt grinding machine
Perhaps you have also noticed that there is no reasonable belt grinding machine for hobby carpenters in the market. I already surfed in the entire internet looking after such a machine and I realised that a practical and good quality machine is only available starting from USD 1'000.- and that those machines are usually too big for a hobby workshop. In fact there is a wide range of combined belt and plate grinding machines of various producers in the market; however, most of those machines are not very precise or just not suitable for the ambitious hobby carpenter. Following the example of a professional belt grinding machine, I transformed and improved a standard belt grinding machine by turning the belt horizontally to the table and linking the engine directly with the axis of the wheel of the belt. The table is mounted with a 90 degree angle to the belt and is not adjustable. The construction allows me to get very precise sanding results with the limitation of a 90 degree angle only. Nevertheless, most of my works require a 90 degree cut.
At one end of the sand belt I installed a dust collector which can directly be connected to a vacuum cleaner. The construction allows me to get very precise sanding results with the limitation of a 90 degree angle only. The machine is already many years in use, running with a minimum of maintenance and providing every time excellent sanding results.
